Patrick Venables
Bootcamp leader/trainer on many courses
Patrick is a third-generation arborist, his family having been in the industry in Hertfordshire for over 150 years. Having set up his own conservation-based arb company back in the 80s when promoting diversity and conservation within arboriculture was a novel approach, he’s now come full circle working for Maydencroft, initially as an arboricultural contracts manager and then from September 2019, as the company's HSEQ and Asset Manager.
As HSEQ Manager, Patrick is passionate about promoting and maintaining a positive health, safety and well-being culture of the entire workforce.
He’s been instrumental in developing the digitisation of many of our systems, builds, maintains and oversees all our app-based software and is keen to ensure everyone works together to achieve the same goals, is always exploring new and innovative ways of allowing us to work smarter, not harder.
“Being empowered to conduct the R&D has allowed us to streamline and become more efficient in the way we approach health and safety which in turn has led to a more robust system and culture.”
Everything health, safety, environmental, asset related and depots are all part of his brief and he works closely with the MD, ensuring we maintain all accreditations needed and continue to meet our own very high standards.
“My main priority is to ensure everyone is kept safe and healthy, myself included. Knowing I have a good overview of the systems, procedures and, most importantly, the people, enables me to be free from worry at the end of the working day and I can sleep soundly.”
Having responsibility for over a 140 people in a fast-growing company that is predominately made up of a skilled, manual labour workforce can be a challenging task, but Patrick’s appetite for the role has allowed our growth to flourish whilst still maintaining an overview and ultimate control of all the processes.
